Suhareka

Suhareka, in the historical landscape of Theranda, is surrounded by routes, cultivated land and archaeological sites. The municipal overview records prehistoric remains at Hisar near the road toward Prizren, where excavations have revealed material from prehistoric, medieval and early Ottoman periods. The wider municipality also preserves tumuli and traces of earlier settlements, placing the town within a long-lived settlement zone.

The history links this area with Dardanian antiquity, followed by Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Ottoman registers and travellers’ records provide a written layer for the settlements of the area. During Ottoman rule, local groups took part in political and military events affecting Kosovo, including the 1688–89 uprising associated with Pjetër Bogdani. These layers place Suhareka within a historical landscape shaped by settlement, documentation and regional connections.
