Greiçec, treated in the volume as Gjyteti (Grejçeci), lies about 22 km northeast of Theranda. Traces of an older settlement survive on Kodra e Gjytetit, and the very name of the locality reflects the importance of the site in local historical memory.
The settlement has not been securely identified in the earliest medieval records, but it appears in a church report from 1725. During the 20th century many residents moved to different parts of Kosovo, while some families left for Albania under pressure. During the Yugoslav Kingdom, agrarian reform and colonisation also affected property in this area, particularly around Qafa e Duhlës.
Before the 1998–99 war the village had around 143 houses and approximately 843 Albanian residents. During Serbian attacks numerous homes were burned or destroyed, while the school and the mosque, built in 1897, were also destroyed.
