Rreshtan lies about 3 km west of Theranda, beside the Toplluha River and the surrounding hills. It is a compact settlement. Numerous pottery fragments appear along the river terraces, while old graves and other traces of earlier habitation survive near the spring and at several localities.
The name has not been securely identified in medieval documentation, but late-19th-century yearbooks record the form Rashtan. During the interwar period seven Serbian colonist families were settled here.
A large part of the village was burned during the offensive of 23 August 1998. Destruction deepened in March 1999: only eight occupied houses and six houses under construction escaped burning, while more than 80% of auxiliary and economic buildings were destroyed. Residents left the village on 22 March 1999 and found shelter in different places, including Albania.
