Neprebisht lies about 8 km southwest of Theranda, on level ground near low hills. The settlement has important Iron Age archaeological traces; during the First World War Austrian archaeologists investigated tumuli in this area.
Written records mention Neprobishta in a charter from 1198 and again in a document from 1282. An Ottoman register from 1485 records 18 households. After 1912 and again in 1938–40, some families emigrated to Turkey and Albania. During the interwar period two colonist families from Bosnia and Herzegovina were also settled here.
In 1999 the village had around 150 houses and approximately 1,200 residents. During Serbian attacks in 1998–99, about 180 houses and other economic buildings were burned or destroyed, while the mosque was partly damaged on 30 March 1999.
