Malasi (Muhlani) lies about 8 km east of Theranda and is a compact hill settlement. Old burial grounds and traces of house foundations survive near the village; local tradition associates some of the graves with earlier periods of habitation.
The settlement is mentioned in the memorial book of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity from 1465. An Ottoman register from 1530 records the form Muholani with six households. In 1935–36 an Albanian family emigrated to Turkey following conflict and political pressure.
Before the 1998–99 war the village had about 46 Albanian houses with approximately 550 residents and 16 Serbian houses with around 90 residents. During the war Serbian police and military forces destroyed 13 houses and damaged many others. The conflict significantly altered village life and its demographic structure, while the historical name Muhlani continues to be preserved in the public title of the settlement.
