Bukosh lies about 6 km east of Theranda, on open ground at the foot of the mountains, and is largely a dispersed settlement. Its territory preserves numerous traces of earlier habitation. Tumuli, old burial grounds, bricks and roof tiles have been recorded near Prroni i Kishës and at other localities; at Therraç, farmers also uncovered a water system made of clay pipes.
The settlement appears in Ottoman documentation and in late-19th-century Kosovo Vilayet yearbooks under the forms Bokosh and Bukosh. During the Yugoslav Kingdom, dozens of men temporarily left for Albania under the political pressure of the period.
On 27 September 1998 and again at the end of May 1999, Serbian forces burned 159 houses, including the Zybaj tower built in 1880. The school, its library, the clinic and many private libraries were also destroyed. In May 1999, 24 people were executed in the schoolyard.
