Çadrak lies about 15 km northeast of Theranda, on the southern slopes of the Carraleva mountains. Place-names such as Rrasa e Kishës, Lugu i Kishës and Ara e Kishës, together with traces of an old tower and burial grounds, point to earlier phases of settlement.
The village is mentioned in the memorial book of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity from the 15th century. An Ottoman register of 1530 records forms of the name Çajdrak, while yearbooks from 1893, 1896 and 1900 preserve the same naming tradition. After the expulsion of Albanians from the Sanjak of Niš in 1877–78, an Albanian muhajir family settled in the Vrella neighbourhood.
After 1912 the Serbian authorities used violence against residents in an effort to force emigration. During the 1998–99 war, only two of the village's 52 houses escaped burning. A father and daughter were killed by shelling in March 1999, and residents were repeatedly forced to leave the village.
