Podujeva

Podujeva is rooted in the Llap landscape, where the river plain, surrounding hills and natural passes supported settlement from prehistory onward. The municipal history records numerous archaeological sites and fortifications across the region, including the fortress at Batllavë. In the Dardanian and Roman periods, the Llap area stood on routes that linked inland Kosovo with the Adriatic and Macedonia; the later Naissus–Lissus road followed this broader east–west corridor.

The Roman centre of Vendenis at Gllamnik gives the area a further urban and administrative reference. By the early nineteenth century, Podujeva was the centre of the Llap nahije within the Sanjak of Prishtina. These layers explain the town’s historical setting: a place formed by water, routes and settlement, with evidence that stretches from fortified prehistoric landscapes to written Ottoman administration.
