Brezaj (Rakinica) is in the municipality of Podujeva. An Ottoman register from 1537 documents the settlement with 13 households. A later register from 1650 documents the settlement.

The register from 1893 documents the settlement. The source records burning connected with a documented historical conflict. Historical sources also record the settlement under the form Rakinica.
