Rahovec

Rahovec’s setting combines the vineyard landscape of Dukagjin with a notably deep archaeological record. The municipal history identifies prehistoric and early historic remains at sites including Zatriq, Gexhë, Gurkuq, Rahovec and Hoça. Hill forts, settlement traces and material finds place this area within the Dardanian world and its later Roman, Byzantine and medieval layers.

Routes also shaped the municipality. The source describes connections through the Drin valley and a branch of the Lissus–Naissus corridor that crossed the White Drin near today’s Rugovë, continuing toward Gexhë and Çifllak. A Roman castrum has been noted at Gexhë. These archaeological and route-based connections explain why Rahovec’s history cannot be reduced to a single period: its settlements developed across a long sequence of landscape, movement and administration.
