Hoçë e Madhe lies about 4 km southeast of Rahovec. It is a compact settlement. Its elevation is about 420 metres above sea level. During the Middle Ages, Hoçë e Madhe had a market square and an important economic role in the region. The settlement is also known for its many churches and its wine-growing tradition, both of which have shaped its historical identity.
Ottoman records from the 16th and 17th centuries describe Hoça with several quarters and as a trading centre. It later appears on an Austrian map based on information from 1689 and in the late-19th-century Kosovo Vilayet yearbooks. The 20th century also brought emigration of some residents to Turkey.
