Kamenica

Kamenica lies in eastern Kosovo, where the valleys of the Morava, Kriva Reka, Hogosht and Miresh linked the area with neighbouring regions. The municipal history records a dense archaeological landscape: open settlements at Koretin and Topanicë, and fortified sites at Krilevë, Velegllavë, Busovatë, Strezoc and elsewhere. These traces show that habitation was shaped by valleys, cultivated ground and defensible hills.

The area is placed within Dardanian history, followed by Roman and late-antique change. Archaeological finds include a fifth-century fortress at Kamenica and material from Kopërnicë. Later written sources and administrative changes added further layers, but the strongest local continuity is visible in the relation between settlement, river valleys and the surrounding hills. Kamenica’s history is therefore best approached through this eastern Kosovo landscape, rather than as a town detached from the older communities that surround it.
