Ropotova e Madhe is in the municipality of Kamenica. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement under the form Ropotovë with 23 households and 6 unmarried men. A historical document from 1530 mentions the settlement under the form Ropoto.
A later register from 1566 documents the settlement under the form Ropotova Bozorg with 55 households and 11 unmarried men. The register from 1893 documents the settlement under the form Ropotova-i Bala. Historical sources also record the settlement under the form Ropotova.
