Ropotova e Madhe is in the municipality of Kamenica. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement under the form Ropotovë with 23 households and 6 unmarried men. A historical document from 1530 mentions the settlement under the form Ropoto.
An Ottoman register from 1566 documents the settlement under the form Ropotova Bozorg with 55 households and 11 unmarried men. An Ottoman register from 1893 documents the settlement under the form Ropotova-i Bala. Historical sources also record the settlement under the form Ropotova.
