History
A brief history of Shtime
Shtime occupies a passage between the Kosovo Plain and the Caraleva highlands, a position that long made its territory a crossroads. Caravan traffic once used the Topilla valley on the way toward Budakova and the Dukagjin Plain, and traders paid a toll at Guri i Shtrejt. The record also notes early settlement traces at Petrovë, Mollopolc, Shtime, Zotaj and Godon.
The area is placed within the Dardanian past and later passed through Roman and Ottoman rule. In 1877–78, muhaxhir families displaced from the Sanjak of Niš settled in Shtime and nearby villages. During the League of Prizren period, Shtime and Caraleva were affected by conflict connected with Dervish Pasha’s 1881 expedition. These local routes, archaeological traces and population movements provide a historical setting for Shtime rooted in its own landscape.
