Belaj (Belinca) is in the municipality of Shtime. An Ottoman register from 1311 documents the settlement. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement with 32 households and 2 unmarried men.

An Ottoman register from 1566 documents the settlement under the form Belençi with 16 households and 10 unmarried men. An Ottoman register from 1893 documents the settlement. The evidence includes older burial grounds, pointing to earlier habitation.
