Municipality Shtime

Gjergjaj (Gjurkoci) is in the municipality of Shtime. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement with 28 households and 1 unmarried man. A later register from 1566 documents the settlement with 11 households.

The register from 1893 documents the settlement under the form Gurgofça. Archaeological traces mentioned in the study include older burial grounds. The source records migration of residents to Turkey. Historical sources also record the settlement under the form Gjinaj.
