Settlement

Livoç i Ulët

Municipality Gjilan

Livoç i Ulët lies about 3 km southwest of Gjilan and is mainly a compact lowland settlement. Ceramic water pipes have been found at Smonicë, while the village is also mentioned in records associated with the merchant Mikel Llukari.

After 1860 around 50 Circassian families were settled in the area; most left for Turkey in 1878. Serbian families from the Vranje area were later settled here, while some Albanian families migrated to Turkey and Albania.

On 5 April 1999 the population left the village. During the war 48 houses and economic buildings were destroyed, while the mosque built in 1965 was completely burned on 22 April.
