Shterpce

Shtërpcë belongs to the Siriniq landscape, a valley-and-mountain area whose historical record reaches back to Dardanian settlement. Archaeological traces are preserved across the municipality, including older sites at Vërbështicë and Gotovushë, the fortification at Kashtanjevë, and the site at Brezovicë. These remains show that settlement was spread across valleys, terraces and defensible ground rather than concentrated only in the present town.

The area also has a history of mineral work. The source records chromium extraction around Vërbështicë and Jazhincë, with references to the Siriniq mining area in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. In administrative terms, the settlements now forming the municipality were previously linked with the wider Ferizaj area; Shtërpcë became a separate municipal unit in 1988. This history connects the town with Siriniq’s older settlements, mountain resources and changing local administration.
