Zhegosi lies about 14–17 km northwest of Gjilan and is a dispersed hill-and-mountain settlement. Gradina, Kulina and Lugu i Kishës preserve pottery, house foundations and other traces of early habitation; the area also contains evidence of ore processing.
A 1455 register records the form Zikofc, while the 1498 register preserves Uzgoqa/Zegoqa. An Austrian map from 1689 records Zhegovc. During the 20th century many families migrated to towns in Kosovo and abroad.
In 1999 the village had around 45 families and 390 Albanian residents. Serbian forces burned 40 houses and dozens of auxiliary buildings; six people were killed. The village also hosted a KLA headquarters for the Karadak Operational Zone.
