Settlement

Terzijaj

Municipality Gjilan

Terzijaj lies on a plateau about five kilometres southeast of Zhegër, above Kodra e Tumës. By the beginning of the 21st century the village had no permanent residents.

At the start of the 20th century it had around 16 Albanian houses. From the 1960s onward, economic hardship drove extensive migration; residents moved to other centres in Kosovo and abroad until the settlement became almost completely depopulated.

Although the village was largely abandoned, the 1999 war still touched the area: Serbian forces killed and massacred one resident originating from Terzijaj.
