Settlement

Smallusha

Municipality Lipjan

Smallushë lies about 7–8 km east of Lipjan, on lowland and small hills near the Zhegoc mountains. Material remains survive within its territory, while several localities preserve traces of an early church and settlement.

The village is mentioned in Graçanica documents from 1314–16 and in other 14th-century records. A register from 1455 lists Smollnush with 15 households; the 1566–74 register documents continuity, while an Austrian map based on information from 1689 also includes the settlement. After the expulsions of 1878, Albanian muhajir families from Toplica settled here.

At the beginning of 1999 Smallushë had 172 houses and around 1,540 Albanian residents. Serbian police and military forces burned or destroyed 41 houses with associated buildings; part of the school's documentation and library was stolen or destroyed.
