Përlepi (Përlepnica) lies about 8 km northeast of Gjilan in a valley. At Arrnicë, large bricks, storage vessels and other material have been found, together with a coin from the Roman period.
The settlement is mentioned in a charter from 1381, in the 1455 register with 52 households, and in the 1566–74 register with 50. An Austrian map from 1689 preserves the form Prilepnica. Muhajir families settled here after 1877–78, while 16 colonist families were established during the interwar period.
In spring 1999, 123 Albanian houses and many other buildings were burned. On 14 April the mosque was burned, while the school, library, local office and clinic were damaged.
