Muçaj (Muçibaba) lies about 15 km southeast of Gjilan and is a dispersed hill-and-mountain settlement divided into neighbourhoods. At Puzllom and other localities, old burial grounds, house foundations and other traces point to earlier habitation.
The 1498 register of the Novo Brdo district mentions Muçibaba and a district of the same name; the 1566–74 register records five households. Late-19th-century yearbooks preserve the forms Moçi Baba and Muçibaba. Some families later migrated to Turkey and elsewhere.
Before the 1999 war the village had around 54 houses and 580 Albanian residents. Six houses were destroyed during the war, and the roof of the mosque was damaged.
