Mlikë lies in the Gora region, in the Brod River valley south of Dragash. Its clustered neighbourhoods sit within a mountain landscape shaped by routes, water and older burial grounds. Local tradition describes Mlikë as an earlier small administrative centre for Gora; that tradition sits alongside more secure written references. A 1348 charter mentions the route towards Mlika, and Ottoman registers of the sixteenth century record the settlement by name.
The village also preserves old Muslim gravestones and inscriptions around its mosque and cemetery. These features give Mlikë a distinctive cultural landscape within Gora, where Albanian, Goran and wider Balkan histories meet. The settlement’s history is richer than a short article can show, so this introduction keeps to the main documentary and heritage points rather than reproducing its detailed local ethnography.
Mlikë’s valley setting also helps explain its place in the wider Gora landscape. Routes through the mountains and the presence of older communal sites made such villages important points of connection, memory and local administration.
