Malmiri i Poshtëm (Sllakoci i Poshtëm)

Municipality Gjilan

Malmiri i Poshtëm (Sllakoci i Poshtëm) lies about 20 km west of Gjilan and is a dispersed hill-and-mountain settlement. In the Zhegoc mountains stands the Sllakovc fortress site, between Gradina e Madhe and Gradina e Vogël, a complex the study associates with ancient habitation.

A 1498 register mentions Sllovaça, while the 1566–74 register records eight households. Late-19th-century yearbooks preserve the forms Islakofç-i yolo and Sllakofc. In 1956 several families migrated to Turkey.

At the beginning of 1999 the village had 32 families and around 400 Albanian residents. During the war all 26 inhabited houses were burned, shelled or otherwise damaged; one family was expelled to North Macedonia, while others sheltered in the mountains.
