Lugishta (Sllubica) lies about 16 km southeast of Gjilan. Old burial grounds survive above the village mosque, near the Te Xhamia neighbourhood and in the nearby mountain area, pointing to an earlier history of settlement.
The village does not appear clearly in the known medieval records, but Kosovo Vilayet yearbooks from 1893, 1896 and 1900 record the form Islobiçe. During the 20th century many residents migrated to North Macedonia, Gjilan and elsewhere.
In 1999 Serbian forces burned six houses in the Rekali neighbourhood and damaged other buildings. These losses form the principal wartime episode documented for the settlement.
