Lashtishti (Llashtica) lies at the foot of the Karadak, about 9 km south of Gjilan and close to the Morava River. Tumuli, necropolises and traces of a fortified site at Gomullë indicate early habitation in the area.
A 1455 register records the settlement as Opashticë, while later Ottoman records preserve the form Obashtica. After 1912 many Albanian families began to leave, while 72 Serbian and Montenegrin colonist families were settled in the village between the two world wars.
During the Serbian offensives of April and May 1999, 123 houses, the school, clinic, library and the 1836 mosque were burned. Twenty-four people, including women and children, were killed, and the population was largely expelled to North Macedonia.
