Livoçi i Epërm lies about 2 km west of Gjilan and includes neighbourhoods in both the lowland and hilly zones. House foundations, wells and other traces of earlier habitation survive in its territory.
An Austrian map from 1689 records the settlement as Livoçi i Epërm. During the interwar period Slavic colonist families were established here; six such families are documented in 1927. Some Albanian residents later moved to Gjilan and elsewhere.
In 1912 the Serbian army burned houses and killed ten people. During the 1999 war, 22 buildings were burned or destroyed and four residents were killed; on 14 April the population left the village.
