Gërçina

Municipality Gjakova

Gërçina is in the municipality of Gjakova. A historical document from 1330 mentions the settlement. An Ottoman register from 1485 documents the settlement under the form Gijaçaca with 4 households and 1 unmarried man.

A later register from 1571 documents the settlement under the form Giraçina with 18 households and 3 unmarried men. For 1998–99, the source documents burning and killings. Archaeological traces mentioned in the study include pottery and tile fragments and building foundations. The source records burning connected with a documented historical conflict.
