Gadishi lies about 17 km west of Gjilan and is a dispersed hill-and-mountain settlement. Archaeological traces and preserved place-names indicate earlier habitation; the record also includes Gradiska and the Church of St Nicholas.
The settlement appears in the 1498 register of the Novo Brdo district as Gadisha/Gadesh and in the 1566–74 register as Gadesh. After 1913 some families migrated to Turkey and elsewhere.
In the spring of 1999 nearly the entire village was burned or destroyed, with only a few houses left standing. On 15 April 1999 Serbian police and army forces killed two young men and one KLA fighter; before the war the village had around 560 Albanian residents.
