Dobërçan, treated in the volume as Mireshi (Dobërçani), lies about 12 km northeast of Gjilan in a valley. Pottery and other traces found in its territory are associated in the study with early habitation.
The settlement is recorded in the 1566–74 register with 26 households and on an Austrian map from 1689 as Dobruçan. Neighbourhoods formed by Albanian muhajir families also developed in the area, while Slavic colonist families were settled here between the two world wars.
In June 1999 the village mosque, which the volume dates to 1527, was burned and demolished, and its imam was killed. Two residents were killed during the war; the settlement itself escaped more extensive destruction.
