Capar is a hilly settlement about 8 km northeast of Gjilan, divided into compact neighbourhoods. Old burial grounds and traces associated with earlier habitation survive in the village territory, while the settlement name also appears in late-19th-century Ottoman yearbooks.
After the expulsion of Albanians from the Sanjak of Niš in 1877–78, muhajir families settled in Capar. During the Yugoslav monarchy, Slavic colonist families were established in the Capar-Bukovik area. Some residents later migrated to Turkey and Albania.
In 1999 the village had around 25 Albanian houses. At least one house was destroyed during the war.
