Stone Bridge - XIV century

Vushtrri’s Old Stone Bridge

This record refers to Ura e Vjetër e Gurit in Vushtrri, west of the town on the old road towards Mitrovica. It is distinct from Prizren’s Stone Bridge, Ura e Fshejt near Gjakova, Tailors’ Bridge and Tanners’ Bridge.

Nine arches from the medieval landscape

Kosovo’s Cultural Heritage Database identifies the protected bridge as a 14th-century monument. Its long, asymmetrical stone structure is carried by nine arches, and local names include both the Old Bridge and the Stone Bridge. The construction reflects the importance of the route and the engineering needed to cross the Sitnica.

The bridge without a river

The Sitnica later shifted away from the structure, leaving the bridge on dry ground and creating the feature for which it is now best known. Walk around it to understand the full length and changing rhythm of its arches, while keeping off vulnerable masonry and respecting any conservation barriers.
