Sinan Pasha Mosque

A defining landmark above Shatërvan

Sinan Pasha Mosque rises above Shatërvan Square in the historic core of Prizren. Built in 1615, it is one of the city’s most recognisable Ottoman-era monuments: a large domed prayer hall, a tall minaret and a raised stone setting make it visible from many points in the old town.

Architecture and continuity

Kosovo’s cultural-heritage database notes the mosque’s distinctive proportions, materials and rich interior decoration. Its architectural character is part of a larger historic fabric that includes nearby bridges, fountains, lanes and other religious and civic buildings. The mosque was restored and reopened for worship in 2011, so it remains first and foremost a living religious place as well as a heritage landmark.

Pause outside to appreciate its position in the square, then continue towards the Stone Bridge, the Albanian League of Prizren Complex and the fortress above the city. If entering, dress and behave respectfully and follow any instructions at the site; access can be limited during prayer or community use.
