Hadum Mosque

At the centre of Gjakova’s old bazaar

Hadum Mosque stands in the core of Çarshia e Madhe and is inseparable from Gjakova’s historic market quarter. Kosovo’s Cultural Heritage Database dates the complex to the late 16th century and records more than the mosque itself: the ensemble includes its minaret, mekteb, library, ablution space, old cemetery and fountain.

Architecture in a living setting

The buildings use carved stone and traditional roofing materials, while the wider complex gives the bazaar a clear religious and civic focus. Its value is not limited to the exterior; it helps explain why the old quarter developed around this point and how worship, learning, trade and public life were historically connected.
