Grand Bazaar of Gjakova

A market quarter with a long urban role

The Grand Bazaar, or Çarshia e Madhe, forms the historic heart of Gjakova. It developed around the Hadum Mosque and became central to the city’s trading and craft life. Today its lanes, shopfronts and courtyards make it one of Kosovo’s strongest places for understanding an old bazaar as an urban district rather than a single monument.

Walk, look and connect

Allow time to walk rather than simply cross the bazaar. Look for the rhythm of narrow streets and preserved or restored buildings, then connect the area with Hadum Mosque, Haraqia Inn and other historic places around the old core. The appeal lies in the relationship between these places and everyday life, not in ticking off isolated landmarks.
