Ukshinaj (Kovaçica)

Municipality Mitrovica

Ukshinaj (Kovaçica) is in the municipality of Mitrovica. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement. A later register from 1566 documents the settlement under the form Kovaç with 18 households and 6 unmarried men.

A historical document from 1789 mentions the settlement. The register from 1893 documents the settlement under the form Kovaq. The source records burning connected with a documented historical conflict. In 1877–78, Albanian muhajir families expelled from the Sanjak of Niš settled there; the source records that they later moved away.
