Settlement

Stanishori

Municipality Artana

Stanishor lies about 4 km north of Gjilan and is a compact settlement. A burial ground from Late Antiquity has been identified in its territory, together with localities that local tradition connects with an early church.

The settlement appears on an Austrian map from 1689 and in Kosovo Vilayet yearbooks under the form Istanishor. Albanian muhajir families also settled here after 1877–78. The ethnic composition of the village changed several times during the 20th century.

In 1999 there were around 11 Albanian houses and roughly 120 Serbian houses. Six Albanian houses and other buildings were burned during the war. Today Stanishor belongs to the municipality of Artana/Novo Brdo.
