Shisharkë lies about 14 km northeast of Lipjan, in hilly terrain. The area contains remains of ore processing that the study associates with mining activity in the Roman period. Traces of an old church also survive in the valley of the Hanroc River.
The settlement appears on an Austrian map based on information from 1689 under the form Shisharka. For a long period it was administratively treated as a neighbourhood of Janjevë; a record from 1930 lists only four houses. Croatian families lived in the village and, according to field information, Albanian families had also lived there earlier.
From the 1980s through 1999 most Croatian families emigrated to Croatia. By 1999 only two Croatian families remained; on 15 April they left for Janjevë. In 2000 one family remained in the village.
