Ribar I Madh lies about 6–7 km southwest of Lipjan, at the foot of Blinaja. The volume treats it under the name Ilirioni (Ribari i Madh). Between this settlement and Ribar I Vogël, near the Vadavagja River, house foundations, traces of a church, old wells, pottery and burial grounds have been recorded, indicating an earlier inhabited landscape.
A register from 1566–74 recorded 33 households. An Austrian map based on information from 1689 marks the settlement as Ribare, while residents also appear in the records of the Deviç monastery during the 18th and 19th centuries. Late-19th-century yearbooks document the settlement as well; a sibijan mekteb operated here in the 1880s.
One Slavic colonist family was settled here during the interwar period. After the Second World War some Albanian residents migrated to Albania and, around 1956, to Turkey.
