Ranoc lies about 10 km north of Klina. Its neighbourhoods form distinct parts of the settlement. The terrain is hilly. Recorded traces around the settlement include roof tiles, bricks, old burial grounds, bridge remains, evidence of earlier habitation and use of the area.
The settlement appears in written records from 1485, with further references in 1761, 1770. Historical forms of the name recorded in documents include Rjeniça. A register from 1485 records 74 households. The 20th century also brought emigration of residents to Croatia.
During the interwar period, 10 Serbian or Montenegrin colonist families were settled here. In 1919, the settlement suffered burning, looting or killings during actions by Serbian forces. During the 1998–1999 war, the settlement experienced burning and destruction, killings of residents, the expulsion or displacement of residents.
