Qylagë lies about 12 km west of Lipjan, on lowland terrain. In the northern part, at Bregu, old graves have been found, while house foundations have been recorded at Rogat e Nalta. Bricks and stone walls at nearby localities show that the area was inhabited before the re-establishment of the present settlement.
The study did not identify Qylagë in the earlier archival records it examined. The settlement was re-established by Albanian families around the late 18th or early 19th century. After 1878 Albanian muhajirs expelled from the Sanjak of Niš also settled here. Late-19th-century yearbooks record the village by name, while in 1912 the Serbian authorities took eight residents who never returned.
Before the 1998–99 war Qylagë had around 90 families and approximately 700 Albanian residents. Serbian forces burned 80 houses and around 50 other buildings, while two residents were killed.
