Pasjan lies about 7–8 km south of Gjilan and is a compact settlement. It appears in documents from the late 14th century, while a 1455 register recorded 94 households. The 1566–74 register lists 39, and an Austrian map from 1689 preserves the settlement name.
After the expulsion of Albanians from the Sanjak of Niš in 1877–78, a muhajir neighbourhood developed south of the village. Records from 1904–12 mention 14 such families. After 1912, at different times, they moved toward Gjilan, Skopje, Turkey and elsewhere.
Today Pasjan belongs to the municipality of Partesh, while the volume treats it within the historical Gjilan administrative context.
