Partesh lies about 8–9 km west of Gjilan and is mainly a compact lowland settlement. A Neolithic settlement has been identified in its territory, while a hilltop preserves church remains, medieval grave slabs and Iron Age pottery fragments.
The settlement is mentioned in a charter from 1381. A 1455 register records 17 households, and the 1566–74 register, under the form Parish, records the same number. It also appears on an Austrian map from 1689 and in the Devič register of 1772.
Some Albanian families who had lived here moved away after 1912. Today Partesh is the centre of the municipality of Partesh.
