Municipality Gjilan

Makreshi i Poshtëm is in the municipality of Gjilan. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement under the form Majkros with 20 households and 2 unmarried men. A later register from 1498 documents the settlement.

The register from 1566 documents the settlement under the form Makrish Zir with 12 households and 6 unmarried men. The register from 1896 documents the settlement under the form Makresh-i Zir. The source records migration of residents to Turkey. Historical sources also record the settlement under the form Makreshi Poshtëm.
