Municipality Gjilan
Makreshi i Epërm is in the municipality of Gjilan. An Ottoman register from 1455 documents the settlement under the form Majkros with 20 households and 2 unmarried men. A later register from 1498 documents the settlement under the form Makreshi.
The register from 1566 documents the settlement under the form Makrish Bala with 11 households and 7 unmarried men. The register from 1893 documents the settlement under the form Makresh-i Bala. A historical document from 1904 mentions the settlement. Archaeological traces mentioned in the study include pottery and tile fragments.
