Koretishtë, treated in the volume as Kuretishta, lies about 3 km northwest of Gjilan and is a compact settlement. A 1455 register records the form Karanishte with 14 households, and the village is also mentioned in the register of the Devič Monastery in 1764.
The study preserves evidence of Albanian landholding and population movement before and after 1912. The demographic composition of the village changed considerably over the course of the 20th century.
Today Koretishtë belongs to the municipality of Artana/Novo Brdo, although the 2004 volume treats it within the historical Gjilan municipal area. That administrative change is important when reading the older settlement record.
