Hanroc lies about 20 km northeast of Lipjan, in hilly and mountainous terrain, with homes dispersed across several parts of the settlement. House foundations and traces of earlier habitation have been observed in the valley; local tradition connects some of them with the Roman period, though this remains local memory rather than a completed archaeological dating.
The settlement appears on an Austrian map based on information from 1689 and in late-19th-century Kosovo Vilayet yearbooks under the form Handirofça. Albanian muhajir families expelled from the Sanjak of Niš in 1877–78 also settled here.
Before the 1999 war Hanroc had 18 Albanian houses and around 120 residents. During Serbian attacks two houses were burned and four people were killed; one of them was a KLA member.
