Gadime e Poshtme lies about 12 km southeast of Lipjan and is a compact settlement. East of the village and at Kodra e Merturit, carved stones, foundations, mortar, bricks and large roof tiles have been found; old burial grounds survive at Qafa e Kishës.
The settlement appears in documents associated with Vuk Branković in the late 14th century. A register from 1498 records it as Dolna Gadimla with 80 household heads. An Austrian map from 1689 uses the name Gadime, while yearbooks from 1893, 1896 and 1900 list it as a settlement. During the interwar period nine Serbian and Montenegrin colonist families were settled here.
Before the 1999 war the village had around 480 houses and approximately 3,700 Albanian residents. On 16 April the population was expelled toward Albania and North Macedonia.
