Bujan lies about 8 km southwest of Lipjan and is a compact settlement. Old burial grounds with marble stones survive in the village, while local tradition links the formation of the settlement with arrivals from Bujaj in the highlands of Albania toward the end of the 18th century.
Kosovo Vilayet yearbooks from 1893, 1896 and 1900 record the name Bujan. Between 1923 and 1927 the Yugoslav Kingdom settled eight Serbian and Montenegrin colonist families near the village. Documents from 1930 also show pressure on Albanian residents to sell land and emigrate.
In 1912 the Serbian army carried out serious killings in Bujan, where dozens of village men were killed. In 1999 the village had around 70 houses and approximately 650 Albanian residents.
